Be a Sublime Fool
To sum it all up, if you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling.
You must write every single day of your life.
You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next.
You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like...
It's okay to see beauty in places no one else...

A rain-filled pothole, a dusty lampshade, crooked teeth.
To be a writer you have to be a noticer. An observer. You have to find beauty in everyday, ordinary things. And I think noticing lovely things like the way someone scrunches their nose right before they sneeze, or how wrinkled a woman’s hands on the bus are, just means you really, truly are a writer.
My advice for young female writers would be to shoot high and not cower.
